I have been teaching Spanish, Yearbook Journalism, and English (and on occasion French) at Batesburg-Leesville High School for 40 years, and I chair the Modern Languages Department. I am “highly qualified” in English, French, and Spanish, and I am endorsed in Gifted and Talented Education. I am a 1968 graduate of Great Falls High School, and I graduated with honors from Newberry College in 1972 with a degree in Modern Languages. I was initiated into Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Delta Pi (of which I was the first chapter president), and Blue Key, and I was named to Who's Who. I was the male recipient of the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award upon graduation. I have completed graduate work through the SC Department of Education, Winthrop University, The University of South Carolina, Converse College, Limestone College, and Augustana College (Sioux Falls, South Dakota). I served for a time as South Carolina State Director for the National Spanish Honor Society. At BLHS I have been senior class adviser since 1990 and yearbook adviser since 1978. I also serve as adviser to the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (National Spanish Honor Society) and the Quill and Scroll (National Journalism Honor Society). I received the Panther Teacher Award in 1992 and was BLHS’s Time-Warner Star Teacher in 1999, 2001, and 2002. I have been recognized in the 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th editions of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. I was also selected to appear in the 2005/2006 edition of National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers.
